Abstract

This talk features Srivarshini, Amrita, Shashank, and Neha, 4th-year Dual Degree students who were part of the Young Research Fellowship (YRF) program in 2020. They will present the projects they did and share their experiences of being part of the cohort!

Biography of the speakers

Srivarshini Ganesan:

I am a fourth-year Bioengineering dual degree student. I am interested in using computational methods to study the structure and dynamics of proteins. For my YRF project, I studied the aggregation of amyloid-beta proteins, with implications for developing new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease.

Amrita Mahesh:

I am a fourth-year student in Biological Sciences, and I am interested in using computational methods to look at biological systems. For my YRF project, I analyzed the International Space Station microbiome from a metabolic perspective in order to understand the key species and interactions that drive this microbiome.

Shashank Hiremath:

I am a fourth year Bioengineering and Data Science (IDDD) student. I am interested in understanding the dynamics of neuronal activity. During my YRF stint, I modelled population coding and phase precession in place cells using a minimum uncertainty wavefunction.

Neha Swamination:

I am a fourth-year dual degree student majoring in biological engineering. I am deeply interested in understanding the complexities of human health, with a combination of experimental and computational techniques. My YRF project focuses on understanding the metabolic network involved in Covid-19.
